South Carolina police wrote that Alex Murdaugh had no visible injuries after Saturday’s shooting that reportedly involved the legal scion being shot in the head.

The Daily Beast obtained an incident report where Hampton County police stated that Murdaugh, 53, did not have a “visible injury” and was not under the influence of drugs and alcohol. However, the document described the incident as attempted murder.

However, Hampton County Sheriff T.C. Smalls told The Island Packet on Thursday that the box about Murdaugh not having visible injuries was likely checked in error. Smalls also claimed he would meet with investigator Corporal Kendrell Henderson, who spoke to Murdaugh before he was airlifted to the hospital.

Smalls explained to The Island Packet that police from Varnville responded to the scene first, as Hampton County police were handling another issue outside of the county.

“He did have an injury,” Smalls said while vowing to review the incident report for accuracy.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Murdaugh called 911 on Saturday and said he had been shot in rural Hampton County. The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office asked the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to take over the investigation into Murdaugh’s shooting.

A day before the shooting, Murdaugh reportedly resigned from his family law firm — amid allegations he misappropriated funds. Two days after the shooting, Murdaugh said he was entering rehabilitation for drugs.

SLED is also in the process of investigating June’s shooting deaths of the lawyer’s wife and son, Maggie and Paul Murdaugh, 52 and 22. About two years before his death, son Paul was involved in a 2019 boating accident that killed Mallory Beach, 19.

In addition to Saturday’s shooting, no arrests have been made in connection with Maggie and Paul Murdaugh’s deaths.
