North Carolina authorities are searching for a suspect who shot a North Carolina high school student on Wednesday afternoon before fleeing.
The incident happened at Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, all students were accounted for and safe, except for one. The victim was taken to the hospital but so far, there is no update on the student’s condition.
The sheriff’s office wrote that the suspect fled after the shooting, prompting other schools in the area to go on lockdown. Another disturbance was reported Wednesday afternoon at a nearby Harris Teeter store but it’s unclear if that incident is connected with the school shooting, and there have been no injuries reported.
Meanwhile, the city told parents to “stage Harris Teeter Shopping Center on Peace Haven Road and await further instructions,” ABC 11 reports.
So far, no description of the suspected shooter has been provided. Charlotte ATF special agents and the FBI have responded to the incident.
